Caution: God At Work...

"Be silent, O all flesh, before the Lord: for he is raised up out of his holy habitation." -Zechariah 2:13

Sometimes we talk about what should go on the blog, was there anything that happened worthy of sharing this week? And then, as we seek God and to glorify Him with our words we realize: YES. We are becoming increasingly convinced that Jaffrey Bible House is not a Christian bookstore that holds prayer meetings, but a house of prayer where you can pick up a greeting card or the latest John MacArthur title. Who knows the mind of God and what He has planned for us? Not us, but it's a foolish thing to confuse obedience with clear direction. He prompts, we obey, He gives faith, we continue to obey and wait on Him - that's the best deal in the universe. While reading through Zechariah these past few days, this particular verse (2:13) stuck out and demanded pause. When God goes to work, we need to prepare to be amazed - and He's definitely up to something big here in America.

"Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the Lord. And many nations shall be joined to the Lord in that day, and shall be my people; and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me unto thee." -Zechariah 2:10,11

Even so, come Lord Jesus!

Book Party!

Wednesday night, February 23rd at 6pm, will be Jaffrey Bible House's Usborne book party! There's going to be an official Usborne representative giving a presentation and probably lots of lovely little doo-dads to take home. The Keurig is pretty excited to get some use too! Many Usborne titles are included in home education programs, so stop by and check it all out!

It's Not Illegal Here (Yet)...

While gathering in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and praising His holy name, and lifting our prayers as sweet aroma before His heavenly throne can lead to the severest persecution in some parts of the globe - that's not the case in our blessed America. Jaffrey Bible House has open prayer on Fridays 12pm-1pm and Tuesday evenings 6pm-7pm, and Jesus always seems to make it (Matthew 18:20).

God is preparing some very big things for the Monadnock region, and for our nation as whole - wouldn't you like to be a part of it? Our Mission Statement reads: "To forcefully advance the kingdom of Jesus Christ by providing sound biblical resources to Jaffrey and the surrounding community!" Can you think of any better way to advance the kingdom of Christ than through active, fervent, intercessory prayer?

The End Is Not Nigh...

Ecclesiastes 12:12 says, "And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh."

It's interesting that the wisest man to ever have lived thinks there'll never be a shortage of books. He doesn't elaborate on what kinds of books in particular, but I think we can agree they won't all be Bibles. Something in the works right now at Jaffrey Bible House is a Christian book club. It's not a Bible study, though if you've got some interested folks we can definitely get that ball rolling too. No, this would be more like a critical book study where we read through chapters on our own time and then get together once a week or so to discuss the insights or observations made by the author and the biblical accuracy (or inaccuracy) thereof. Trust us, there's as many fluff-filled bestsellers as there are hidden gems out there, and we'd love to discover them together!

That's as far as we've got so far, so check back often to see what's up. If you have any good suggestions you can let us know too (via phone, e-mail or Facebook). Continue to hold the store up in prayer, as things are really starting too get tight - by this we know God will be glorified all the more! Our prayer meetings are just awesome too, and you should all stop by if you can (Fridays at noon and Tuesdays at six)!

Blessings!

Having The Final Word...

Has it really been that long since our last update?! God has been up to some amazing things here at Jaffrey Bible House, and testimonies of His faithfulness to His people are becoming par for the course (not that we're bored by them)!

Jesus Christ says in Matthew 18:20 "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." This isn't to be taken lightly! And check this out:

I will declare your name to my people;
   in the assembly I will praise you.
You who fear the LORD, praise him!
   All you descendants of Jacob, honor him!
   Revere him, all you descendants of Israel!
For he has not despised or scorned
   the suffering of the afflicted one;
he has not hidden his face from him
   but has listened to his cry for help.

From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly;
   before those who fear you I will fulfill my vows.
The poor will eat and be satisfied;
   those who seek the LORD will praise him—
   may your hearts live forever!

                                     -Psalm 22:22-26

Jaffrey Bible House really isn't that big, but we serve a huge God with plans that would blow our mind should we think upon them! We sell books and bibles and cards and music and things to share the Gospel and encourage discipleship in the Gospel and all that is well and good. God's desire is for His Word to go forth, and for all nations to hear of what He's done at the cross, and what He does in the hearts of men and women that turn to Him. It shouldn't surprise us, though, that some of the most exciting things that happen in the store happen during the times of prayer and praise and fellowship with new believers and veteran saints and eager seekers and anyone else who shows up! To this end we have two times to meet here for open prayer - Fridays at noon and Tuesdays at 6pm - and we routinely need more chairs!

What does God have planned for Jaffrey Bible House? We have no idea at all. We know that we love Him, we know we love to love Him, and we know we're not alone. We know that our heart is to see churches join together and be the Church, we know we want to see hearts and marriages restored and we know God doesn't believe in baby steps. We want to be senders, hosters and doers of His Holy Word; and this whole adventure is in obedience to what He laid on our hearts. He didn't give us footnotes on how to do this, or charts and graphs about how to optimize our inventory to make the most profit, or even some sort of warrantee about how long to try until we can give up. He just said to do it.

But listen to Isaiah 37:6 and 7. Previously king Sennacherib sent his envoy over to Jerusalem to talk about terms of surrender and everyone in the city hears about it. He takes fifteen verses to do this, and it worries king Hezekiah so he sends for word from Isaiah. What does God say about all this?

"Be not afraid of the words that thou hast heard, wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me. Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land."

That's less than two full verses, and in them God says "Don't worry, I got this." God is so awesome!
